Description:
After the county was surveyed by D.H. Kennedy, C. Cramer drew the map. Their work was done under the direction of Civil Engineer, Charles Ellet, Jr., and published in 1843, the same year that Ellet built the bridge over the Schuylkill River at Fairmount — the first large scale suspension bridge in the United States. The orientation of this map is to the northwest in order to fit the map onto four sheets. Blockley and Kingsessing townships, the core of West Philadelphia, are to the left.
